About Canadian–Baltic Gateways

Canadian–Baltic Gateways was created to support thoughtful, relationship-driven engagement between Canada and Latvia, with a broader orientation toward the Baltic and Northern European region.

The work is grounded in the understanding that successful cross-border collaboration requires more than market data or introductions. It requires context, trust, and a realistic appreciation of how systems, cultures, and institutions actually function in practice.

Canadian–Baltic Gateways exists to help organizations navigate that complexity with clarity and care.

Founder

Canadian–Baltic Gateways is led by Susan Mogensen, a governance consultant with more than 25 years of professional experience working with boards, executives, and complex organizations.

Through Brown Dog Consulting, she has supported public, private, and non-profit entities across Canada and the U.S.A. in areas including governance, decision-making, leadership dynamics, and organizational effectiveness.

She holds dual Canadian–Latvian citizenship and maintains active professional connections in both countries, including ongoing collaboration with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (CanCham).

This combination of governance expertise, cross-cultural fluency, and on-the-ground relationships informs a practical, grounded approach to international engagement — one that prioritizes understanding, alignment, and long-term value over speed or scale for its own sake.

Our approach

Canadian–Baltic Gateways is intentionally small, focused, and relational in its way of working.

Engagements are shaped around:

  • careful listening and context-setting
  • realistic expectations and clear boundaries
  • integrity in representation and communication
  • respect for local knowledge and institutional realities

The aim is to help organizations make informed, well-considered decisions about if, when, and how to engage.
